OK after closer inspection...

Eddie was inspecting the snake looking at the fangs and seeing how much venom the little viper had in him. He checked out the tail and he has now changed his mind on what kind of snake it is. He says that the two little buttons on the tail signifies that the snake is a ground rattler not a copperhead. I don't really care either way as the darn thing was a snake, a poisonous snake. I can't hardly bring myself to go outside and everytime I think about it I shiver uncontrollably. I know it is a bad thing to be that scared of something, but my knees get weak at the sight of a snake, a rat, a lizard, a roach, a spider, etc. I can't help it, it is just in my nature to be frightened of those things. I don't like creepy crawlies unless they are plastic and that can sometimes freak me out if I don't realize they are toys soon enough.

Do you have any stories about close calls with snakes, etc.

I don't have any stories to share about close calls, as I tend to stay FAR away from those creepy crawlies. Greg laughs and says they are equally afraid of humans. Yeah, Ok, that still doesn't stop me from not wanting to go near them (hence one of the major reasons for not going camping, along with the modern necessities!)

I actually have several. Snakes for some reason like. I am stealing your idea since my response will be so long and write a post myself. :)

Oh, yes, many many stories about snakes. The scariest was when Scott was 5 and fixing to start kindergarden. Ben was three. I was fixing lunch and the kids were playing outside. I was off and wasn't going to work that day, I think it was a lazy sunday afternoon. We lived literally out in the boonies on a ranch. There was deer, bobcats, baby pigs, cows, horses, squirrels, coons, possums, ...you name it...from time to time they all seems to wander across our yard.

This particular day started out warm, but not too hot, and the kids were playing in the driveway where they was a little bit of a creek that was just about dried up in the East Texas heat. I heard Ben start squealing and Scott started yelling...and screaming. I looked out the door and both of the kids are in their little red wagon, and Scott looks terrified and is screaming SNAKE SNAKE SNAKE SNAKE....wrapped around the wagon wheels (yes wheels plural) is the biggest cotton mouth I've ever layed eyes on (or at least with a mothers fear that's what I saw). I grabbed the hoe and went out and fought with that 6 foot cotton mouth. Yes 6 FOOT OF PISSED OFF SNAKE. He was striking at me and not trying to run away at all. Cotton mouths are notoriously bad tempered and prone to attacking if they feel threatened. Well, he was indeed threatened. I finally beat him to pieces and smashed his head in, then I got a shovel and beat him some more. When the tears and the trembling stopped I had one dead-ass snake! When my husband got home from work he was impressed. I was impressed that my 6 yr old had the presence of mind to lift his 3 year old baby brother...who weighed almost as much as he did into the wagon!

I don't think I let the kids outside again for two weeks, and we had no airconditioning...just a box fan. I didn't care, I had to keep them safe from the world of snakes!

I am terrified of snakes. I hate them. And like you, I don't care what kind of snake it is. The only good snake is a dead snake. I'm an animal lover but snakes just don't qualify for me!
