I have a story to tell...

The other night I took my medicine before bed just like always, but for some reason the Ambien kicked in, but didn't cause me to fall directly asleep. I was whining about wanting something to eat. Eddie said I was acting just like I was "snockered." He said I was begging him just like a little kid for him to get up and make me some graham crackers and cream cheese, yeccchh! I've never eaten that in my life and don't think that would be very tasty mixed together. He said he kissed me and tried to distract me with romance, but I was not to be distracted. He then said that if he got up and started making them, I would be asleep by the time he came back to bed and told me to just, "Go to sleep." I then started begging him to at least bring me some Cheerios. He got up and brought a box to me, but they were stale. I told him there was a new box on top of the fridge, not opened, and he very sweetly got up again and brought me the new box. He said I was eating them, but some were rolling out of my hand onto the bed and he laughingly suggested that I should stop. Trying to get him to hush, I shoved a few of them in his mouth, while he was talking and he had a hard time trying to keep from laughing at me. I finally had eaten enough and I pushed the box at him and proceeded to roll over and start snoring (very femininely, no doubt). He told me about it when we woke up, but I only vaguely remember some of it. I know my stomach felt full the next morning. Since I have had GBS surgery, I don't think this is a good thing. I told him he had permission to turn me down flat if I did this sort of thing again and he should try and keep me from eating when I am in an altered state of mind. Not to mention, what about all those stray Cheerios in the bed.

The ambien probably made you a tad "loopy" without knocking you all the way out. When I took ambien that happened to me to and I ended up having to switch my meds around every few months so that they would continue to work.

How sweet he is :)

renee said...

yep, that ambien can make you a little "drunk". Too funny though.

That's funny (and a little bit scary)-I've had to take ambien before, too and know exactly what you mean. It's scary not remembering crazy things that you did, I thought I was done with that after college, LOL! :)

A Mommy in Jeans and High Heels said...

I can only imagine what Ambien would do to me! I've only ever taken Tylenol PM and let me tell ya, I had to hang on to walls just to walk to the bathroom. I guess I'm a little sensitive!

Congratulations on your WLS! You look amazing!

Great story!! I've never taken Ambien, but I remember after surgery when i was about 14 or 15, I was tkaing pain killers and antibiotics and when the times to take my pills lined up I was in for some good hallucinations. I still remember them.

Next time he needs to pull out the video camera so you can relive the episode for all of time!

Happy SITS day!

How funny! Nyquil does that to me if I take it when I intend to remain awake. My husband enjoyed watching me speak nonsense one night and just kept saying "You need to go to bed" :-)

Congrats on your Sits spotlight, I hope it's a great day for you!!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I could neve take Ambien myself or I'd be afraid I'd be comatose, lol.

Yikes! That's kind of creepy! I hate waking up and not remembering what happened. Don't do it very often (like once in ten years) but it still creeps me out!

Jeanne Estridge said...

That's too funny. Least you were just sprinkling the sheets with Cheerios and and driving!

Congrats on being the FB!

I have heard way too many stories of weird things happening when people take Ambien, so I haven't dared to try it yet.

However, if my husband's snoring keeps up, a good night's sleep might be worth a little midnight snack binging every once in awhile.

Congrats on your weight loss to date. Ambien doesn't work well for me. I wish I could find a sleeping pill that did...

I have never tried Ambien, but after this tale...I don't think I will. Bless your heart! :)

Wow, it must have been surreal to wake up and hear that story. The graham crackers and cream cheese sounds strangely good to me. :)

LMAO! Now I've heard it all...sleep eating! Too funny.

Wow! What a story. I've never taken Ambien but I have friends who have called me late in the evening when I was in bed and I have no recollection of the conversation. And Cheerios in the bed is not as bad as cream cheese coated graham crackers would have been. LOL

BloggessJ said...

WOW...I've had only a couple of days like that...I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Happy SITS day!

This is in fact an odd story but I' mnot going to lie...graham crackers and cream cheese does sound good to me.

Wow, that is kind of scary that a medicine can do that to a person.

I use Benadryl to help me fall asleep on bad days.

Too funny! I've heard some similar stories from DH when I've had to take meds. He always finds it quite amusing. : )

I love your "drunk" Ambien story! I was on Ambien for a short time - I know I talked in my sleep some, but nothing this animated (unless my husband has it on video and is waiting for the opportune moment...) Thanks for sharing (and how NICE your hubby got you some Cheerios!!!) Happy SITS day!

Brittany said...

That's a little scary. Now all those stories about Ambien make sense.

My mom's best friend did something similar on sleep meds except she didn't realize it until the next morning when she walked into the kitchen and saw all the dirty dishes!

hahahaha...deep breath....hahahah...that reminds me, one time when i was on ambien...i took it and went to bed about 1/2 hour later, cause it kicked in really fast that night (this was like 9:00 pm) My mom called at 9:30 wanting to talk to me. hubby told her i was already in bed, but she wanted to talk to me anyway. all i remember is hubby handing me the phone, that's it. i don't remeber anything else. lol i don't know what i said or what she said. hubby said he found the phone sitting next to me on the bed with the operator saying "if you'd like to make a call, please hang up and try again" lol ....

My aunt is the same way... she takes ambien and if she doesn't go directly to bed after taking it, she is hilarious!! We sometimes try to make her stay up just for a good laugh if we are there late at night.

Congrats on being the FB. Happy SITS day!

mmmmmmm, Ambien. Happy SITS day!!!

Wendy said...

I think that's called an ambitrip. I've had similar experiences. I've fallen asleep on the couch and had to be moved and find out the next day it's really funny to be awakened while on ambien.

I have only taken it when I'm not sleeping at all and it's critical that I get some zzz's, so I have several pills left. I think it would be fun to take one and let someone videotape me, because I never have any recollection of what I've done and said the next day and it's always hilarious. Unfortunately, I'm against taking meds when I don't need them, but it's tempting to make an exception on this one.

Ambien, doesn't even make me blink. Now give me a low dose (25mg) of seroquel, and I'm dead for 24 hours. Yet, I used to have a client whom was 70 lbs take alot more than me and stay up all night on it.

I have this picture of you in my mind drooling out pieces of cherrio's!! lol

BTW, your profile pic looks like Florence Henderson (is that her name, the Brady bunch mama). I'm jealous!

That is a step-by-step account of putting my son to sleep last night (minus the Ambien, of course). You weren't acting sloshed--just toddlerish!

Kristy said...

awww, to cute. at least the hubby was sweet and took care of you in your drunken state. how nice of him. good luck with getting all those cherrios out of the bed!

Kay Bratt said...

I was taking Ambien and because of the high cost, my doctor switched me to the generic brand, called Zolpidem. I didn't hear her say to 'cut them in half' and I took a whole one on Wednesday night. One minute it was 10 pm and I was watching a good movie--the next thing I know it was 3 am and I was like "What the crap just happened??" I asked her the next day and she said, "I TOLD you to cut them in half!" It is a great substitute for Ambien and only cost $5 on my drug card...opposed to almost $50 for Ambien!

Judy Schwartz Haley | CoffeeJitters.Net said...

actually I've heard other stories of people eating in their sleep while on ambien. weird stuff

Yeah, my husband was on Ambien once. We had incidents. Hilarious.
