Feeding the chickens bread has caused them to start laying. I am ecstatic to have fresh eggs in the morning.

Had so many in the summer had to sell alot because hens were sitting in every nest box available, we were getting over-run with chickens! we are down to probably 5 hens from spring of 07, 10 from this spring and summer, they are all Cuckoo Marans I ordered them from Ideal, they don't lay the really dark eggs I was hoping for, but some have dark speckles in them. A trio of Mille Fleurs and one partridge wayandotte bantam, her name is "Little old lady" we've had her the longest, her husband passed away this summer....the big roosters were mean to him. :-(
At one point we were spending $20 to $30 a week on feed for them, that is one reason we got rid of alot of them. We sell eggs sometimes, people that work with my husband love getting them.; 5:31 PM
