Dreams (A Poem)

Vivid dreams weave their way inside my head

At night when I'm fast asleep in bed

Memories of the past drift in and out

While unseen monsters make me shout

Why do we dream in our sleep?

What thoughts lie in our subconcious deep

Only to emerge when our eyes close

When into that other place we doze

If we could live inside our dreams

Would Life be perfect? Or an endless scream?

Congrats on being featured SITSta! You go!

This poem is very insightful. You are talented! I think if I lived inside my dreams, things would be much more chaotic than they already are. But sometimes I HATE when I wake up if it was a good dream. And sometimes it was just that the story wasn't finished and I wanted to see how it ended.

I am in constant awe of dreams. I think they are very intriguing!

Dreams are a mystery in life sometimes. Such a nice poem! I used to write poetry all the time when I was in high school. I just don't feel as inspired as I once was.

That's a terrific poem!

I've often wondered the same thing. I have very vivid dreams also. It's the worst when I'm pregnant.

I don't know about dreams, but after reading your earlier posts, I'd say you're a scream -- or at least a hoot!

Happy SITS day!

Awesome poem!

Some nights I just wish I wouldn't dream. I wish I could shut off my brain at night.

I agree with Astrid ... sometimes, I just wish my brain would just STOP IT when I'm sleeping. My dreams can be so detailed and so real ... it makes me feel almost scared to fall asleep!

The Calm One just shakes his head whenever I start to tell him one of my dreams. I think it's a cross between exasperation and amusement.
Happy SITS day.

What a great poem! I dream every night, although I don't always remember the entire thing, it is EVERY freakin' night.

One of my psychology professors said that dreams are like our mind taking the previous day's experiences and trying to file them alphabetically, chronologically, topically, logically, in our mental filing cabinet but sometimes accidentally filing "mom" with "airplane" so we have a dream about our mom being a pilot, or dumping out a whole drawer accidentally, so that we have a dream about the president being an elf and visiting for Sunday dinner, or filing one of our memories right next to our amygdala (stress center of the brain), so that we end up with a dream about badgers attacking us in our sleeping bag on a camping trip. So to answer the question in your poem's last line, that professor would say that in dreams your life would be mostly orderly but sometimes insane. I know it is a rhetorical question and you didn't really want an answer. :)

Cool poem. I think dreams are better left as dreams--just outlets for us to release the stress of the day. :)
Happy SITS day to you!

Life would be very odd if we lived in our dreams, I think... Probably more scream than perfection.

That is such a good poem!!

With me, I think I would be more scream than dream.

A thought provoking poem. I have really really weird dreams sometimes, I don't think I'd want to live in my dreams.

thought provoking!! since my son died (killed in an auto accident nov. 5, 2004) i don't remember my dreams. the first few seconds after i wake up i sometimes remember i was dreaming and then as i wake up the memory fades????? it's relly strange. this happens with good and bad dreams equally?? sometimes i wake up out of breath and sweating but don't remember dreaming at all??

well--first of all WOW! AMAZING! Congratulations on your huge life-changing weight loss! You look just plain happy!

second, hello from SITS!

and third--loved your poem. It's very hard to write in prose and you pulled it off!

I don't think I'd want to live in my dreams. Some pretty strange stuff goes on in those. My daydreams maybe....but not the stuff my brain thinks up at night :)!

Have a great SITS day!

I enjoyed your poetic look at dreams. It's funny that God gave us dreams--I guess our brains are working overtime trying to figure out our world and our relationships and make sense of it all.

Ah, the questions of life. Sometimes I wish I could stay inside my dreams forever... like when it's a purely magnificent one, or it features a long lost love, like my Grandmother or my father or the boy that got away... but, inevitably, we wake. & while sad at the snatching away of such sights, were it a nightmare I was having... I'd be glad to find it but a vision behind closed eyes =] Nice writing!

I wish I had the talent to write poetry. My MIL writes poems about everything...so I hope she rubs this off on my daughter...she babysits her every day. They have a little "verse" (as she calls it) about everything...even the ceiling fan! :)

I miss dreams! I guess I should say I miss remembering my dreams. Honest, I've only had a handful since becoming a mom 6 years ago.

Must have something to do with not getting that much sleep!

Wonderful poem. Congrats on being Saucy! Em

My 4 year old cracks me up. She is always saying "I'm going to put that into my next dream" If she has a nightmare, she is sure to tell me that she didn't "put" the bad stuff in it.

Poems they say is our outlet for our true emotions and the best thing about it is that when it's finally weaved into a poem, it becomes an inspiration for us to ponder on. Yours is inspiring.

My dreams are usually pretty strange and jumbled, I don't put too much stock in them, although they can be pretty interesting. Happy SITS feature!

Remember the movie Flatliners? I would be stuck in a nightmare like that if my dreams were real. Not a night goes by without a handful of nightmares.
